Zeng' s Family Shrine

Zeng' Family Shrine Zeng family is one of the distinguished families in Hsin Chu. The Jeng family near north gate originated from ChuChen WooJian family tree. They moved from Kingmen to Taiwan during 1720 to 1760, and built their family shrine in Kingmen in DawKwan Ching dynasty. Zeng YungHsin and his cousin Zeng YungJen discussed and agreed to build the Zeng family shine near north gate, the money used for the shrine shared by eight families, the whole families would come to worship once a year in the middle of Chinese lunar January and winter solstice.

The main structure of Zeng's family shrine was three-door width, two sections in sequence, ornamentd with fabulous craft art in wood and stone sculpture. The ridge of the roof was like swallowtail , the curving angle and the line were so elegant. The front ground, stood two flag holders, which were from the Jin Shi Mansion, this kind of flag holders only existed in the family whose member ever became the candidate of the civil service examinations. But now the flags already disappeared, only the stone flag holds still there.

The arrangement of brick on the front ground was shaped eight diagrams, which was also very rare in ancient Chinese building. People believed that the owner of
the house cared a lot the 'funshui' (Chinese science of geomancy of the influence of landscape ) so paid too much attentions on every little details.
