Hsinchu City is a happy city, rich in history and culture. By this "small but beautiful" memorial hall, the city hopes to show its appreciation for the heroes who gave their all to the defense of the nation. It also provide the local community a multi-purpose venue. The memorial hall is located on the original site of the Black Bat Squadron dormitory in the No. 12 Public Park on Dongda Rd. Sec. 2. (opposite at the Hsinchu Cultural Affairs Bureau). For former members of the squadron, the choice of location is particularly meaningful.
The exterior of the memorial hall is styled after the dormitory built for the U.S. military advisors group at the time. Total floor space is approximately 460m2, comprising between the ground floor and the basement. For additional flexibility, a small open-air square is located next to the building for hosting small events. The open-air square also features a memorial wall of tempered glass that introduces in Chinese and English the heroism of the Black Bat Squadron. Apart from hosting a complete record of the Black Bat Squadron history, the memorial hall can also support local community events. The memorial hall will therefore introduce people to an important part of history, but also help revitalize local cultural development.
